When visiting Rome, you have two choices for airports: the Fiumicino, otherwise known as the Leonardo da Vinci, and the Ciampino. The Clampino is smaller than the Fiumicino, and offers less expensive and budget airlines, as well as charter lines, whereas the Falminco is the main airport that provides international flights all over the world.
When you get there, you have many options for travel available to you: buses, trams, trains, taxis, and subways. Always make sure you get the metered fare and not the negotiated fare when you ride in a taxi. You can also hire your taxi driver to act as your local tour guide and show you all of the hot spots, provided you’ve got a suitable taxi driver.
In Rome, you can choose from tons of hotels that are available in a vast array of price ranges. Staying at a hotel near the center of the city will allow you to walk to most places, despite Rome’s size. Of course, you might spend less money if you stay further away from the city and are willing to take public transportation to your destinations.
St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican are definite must sees for those who have come with the purpose of experience all of the inspiring historical sites that Rome has to offer. Some of the the most unbelievable architecture from ancient Rome you can see will be found at Palantine Hill, the Roman Forum, and the Coliseum.
If you plan on sightseeing many different places, then you might consider purchasing the Roma Archeologia card, which gives you admission to many different sites throughout Rome.
Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps, have to be visited, if you are looking for a place to shop when traveling to Rome. This area of Rome is full of boutiques, antique shops, restaurants, bars, and more. You can get to anything and everything you need all on your own two feet. There are very bustling markets found in the center of Rome, that cannot be passed up when traveling to Rome.
