Designer Sunglasses: Cool?
To some, it’s super metro Aviators a la Top Gun.Others might mean Ray Bans as in the Blues Brothers or the Big Lebowski.Everyone knows that “The Dude” is sporting Ray Bans but they don’t seem to ones that we know and love. Maybe they’re an old line, since most of the wardrobe was Bridges’ own stuff! Not many are thinking Dr Strangelove when it comes to designer sunglasses! For others it might just be the brand name of their designer sunglasses that’s vital: Animal, Burberry, D&G, Diesel, Emporio Armani, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Ray-Ban, Prada, Tommy Hilfiger or YSL.
Why the importance of “Cool”?After all, the basic task of sunglasses, even if they are designer sunglasses, is to provide protection from dangerous UV rays.Sunglasses are meant to provide 100% protection from very harmful Ultra Violet radiation.As an absolute minimum, they should prevent glare, particularly useful when driving.
Some say “Cool” is nothing more than commercialised peer group pressure.Cool is basically what we did as infants – it’s a smile or an attitude that gets the reaction we want from those we want to impress.As a teenager, friends and peers are the in crowd.As and adult, those people are likelier to be potential sexual partners.
Remember, don’t be influenced by just the brand name. Whatever the brand, buy the ones that look best on you. Different shapes of face can completely alter the look of the same pair of sunglasses.Purchase sunglasses that suit the shape of your face, your hair colour and complexion. Bear in mind frame shape and colour when making your choice. Choose frame colours that complement your skin tones when buying sunglasses.There’s nothing wrong with going crazy and buying several pairs of designer sunglasses to match your wardrobe! Get yourself a few pairs to match your extensive wardrobe.
Let’s not start to dismiss the notion of “Cool” altogether, because self esteem is also important.We all need to feel good about ourselves. Even more important and entirely in our own hands, is what we do with our own abilities. That is the secret of self-esteem. And if thinking you look cool or good in a pair of designer sunglasses reinforces that perception and self esteem and encourages you to be confident and assertive, then where’s the harm in that?
