Why does my oscillating fan sound bad?
When it oscillates back and forth- it occasionally sounds like the motor loses power…but then recovers, after completing the turn. Any fan experts out there? It’s a Holmes dual rotor(two sets of blades), 18″ desk fan.
Sounds like your oscillating linkage needs lubrication. Remove the cover, and place a couple of drops of 3 in 1 oil on the joints of the linkage, do not use more than that. The reason the motor slows as it reaches the turn is that it is having to work too hard to move the linkage through the turns. Some models have a plastic bushing installed between the connecting points, and these wear over time. If this is the problem you can contact the manufacturer about getting new ones.
