On-faucet water filters: These filters are easy to install water purifiers and they come with a dense carbon black which helps in filtering harmful bacteria, odors, chemicals and other toxins present in the water. Nowadays, most of these filters are available with an indicator to inform you that filter needs to be replaced. Counter Top Water filters have a ceramic filter and is used in the combination with carbon to filter all impurities and it is ease of installation but it requires lot of space on the counter.
An under the sink filter is both small and kept hidden away by being installed, as the name implies, under your sink. The cartridge filtration system means that you will occasionally need to buy a new cartridge.
Another way of classifying the water filters will be based on the type of filtration system it uses.
Water filters which is activated by charcoal
In these filters charcoal absorbs the harmful odors, toxins and other sediments present in the water. The well known filters like Brita water filter and pur water filters use charcoal technology. These pour through filters are quite cost effective. The water wastage in these filters is minimum and hence they are preferred by most customers.
Reverse Osmosis water filters
Reverse Osmosis filters are well known for cleaning the water of all toxins, bacteria and other pathogens. The water is initially passed through the RO filters and then sent to a storage tank. Before it is used, it goes through the carbon filters and hence it is as good as distilled water. The disadvantage of using a RO filter is that they waste a lot of water during the process of purification. Therefore, for a gallon of pure water, two gallons of water are wasted.
