Can propane heat cause moisture? Help!!?
We have a small log cabin home and got propane heater a few years ago. Never have had a problem until now. My husband caulked all the outside logs and the logs of 2 of the interior walls. We now have moisture on the floor of these 2 inside walls.
Is this moisture because of the air-tightness from the caulking, the propane heat or a combination of both? We live in a cold climate so we can not keep a window open. Is a dehumidifier our solution?
One way or the other the caulking cause the problem not the propane heat. Condensation forms when the temperature of the surface is colder than the dew point of the air. Something he did caused a change in the way that air circulates in your log cabin thus changing the properties of the air in your cabin. Before the outside air was coming in those cracks and the dewpoint of the outside air was colder than the temperature of the surface of the floor. You need to find a way to warm those surfaces. Either insulate those areas better or circulate the air better with a little bitty fan. If you are using a humidifier or setting a pan of water on the stove you might want to stop or cut back.
Can you insulate the floor from underneath the cabin?
