Essential Oils Are Derived From Plants

Essential oils are aromatic volatile liquids derived from plants. Essential oils were used in ancient Greece and Rome to fight infections and in ancient Egypt for massage and bathing. These oils which are the pure “essence” of the plant have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits when used correctly and safely. Oils may also be blended together to provide a pleasing aroma. Essential oils are the fragrant and therapeutic essences distilled from herbs, flowers, leaves or bark.

Essential oils are typically extracted from plant matter via steam distillation. Steam distillation is gentle enough for most essential oils as it only heats the oil to just above the boiling point of water.

Aromatic oils have been used since ancient times. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries to restore vitality and incite passion. Essential oils work most effectively when they are combined with a diffuser. Essential oil diffusers are wonderful gifts for the office or any location. Essential oils may be toxic if taken by mouth and should not be swallowed. These oils are flammable and must be kept away from heat sources not designed for their use.

Essential oils do not have specific chemical properties in common but convey certain fragrances. Essential oils have the scent of the plant from which they were distilled. The purest essential oils come from carefully cultivated, wild plants grown throughout the world. Essential oils are not the same as perfumes. These pure oils are frequently referred to as the “life force” of plants. Essential oils cannot be made synthetically. These pure oils should be kept in dark colored glass bottles such as amber or cobalt blue. Essential oils improve health and well being. Essential oils have been used medicinally throughout history. Essential oils should not replace proper health care.

These pure oils are found the flowers and leaves and cause the scent of the flower. Since essential oils are aromatic; their benefits are obtained by inhaling them. Pure essential oils make the flicker of a candle even more romantic. Aromatherapy essential oils, and essential oil blends are used for lifting and calming your mood. .

Essential oils are used by everyone but some precautions should be followed. Because of their concentrated nature, essential oils generally should not be applied directly to the skin in their undiluted or “neat” form. Interest in essential oils has revived in recent decades with the popularity of aromatherapy, a branch of alternative medicine which claims that the specific aromas carried by essential oils have curative effects.
