Low Cost Bio-Reactor Filtration Of Industrial Waste Streams
Naturally occurring microbes offer a proficient and low cost method of H2S, SO2, NOx and VOC abatement. Microbial abatement offers a proven technology that has been in place over the last ten years. Bio-Reactor systems are available as stationary and mobile systems.
These precise, naturally occurring microbes are used in bioreactors systems. They make use of H2S, SO2, NOx and VOCs as a source for microbial growth and reproduction and oxidize these to carbon dioxide and water. Microbes obtain their energy thru these emissions, the emission acts as nutrients during the bio-reaction process.
The Bioreactors is a perfect abatement system for high volume airflow occurs with larger bio-reactor systems capable of over 2000 lbs. of emissions per hour. When the off-gas process stream has relatively low emission concentration thermal oxidation becomes less cost-effective. Bio-Reactor systems are effective in emission and odor from a very wide variety of waste gas streams.
Bio-Reactors provide the most encouraging condition for microbial growth and reproduction. The microbial area within the reaction chamber is controlled by the disposition of a carbon bed gyrating in the microbial wash cycle which supports the microbial live. Additional nutrients (H2S, SO2, NOx and VOCs) are given to the microbes at a controlled rate based on the amount of emission loading thru the bio-reactor system.
The granulated activated carbon bed is used for adsorption of the emissions during the Bio-Reactor operation. The carbon bed acts as a filter and releases the solvents when the interior bed revolves into the microbial wash solution, it is this system that levels the concentration levels and allows the Bio-Reactor system to receive a more constant load.
Bio-Reactor systems have very low operating costs. In part because they operate at ambient temperatures, requiring only enough energy to drive the emission laden air and a small circulating motor to turn the carbon bed filter inside. Systems are designed to meet specific destruction efficiencies and loading requirements. The systems have a very small footprint and require minimal electrical consumption.
Bio-Reactors have superior emission abatement characteristics and are extremely resilient. These systems can be shut down for months at any time without any problems. To restart the system simply pour in a small quantity of the microbial dry powder and restart the system, it requires no time to reach maximum destruction efficiencies.
